Magazine Monday Challenge at PaperCrafter's Corner 2/24/14

This week's Magazine Monday Challenge at PaperCrafter's Corner for 2/24/14 is to use something from a magazine in whatever I create.  This is the inspiration piece:

Rolled pages, color!, shapes, light and dark are the terms suggested by this image.

In going through my stack of cut-out magazine images, I found a lot of them that played with light and dark, shades of black and white and brown. I took a canvas, covered it with black paper and washi tape and then added my images.  Here is the wall piece I created viewed from two different angles:

All of the images are from magazines except for the dancer in the lower right corner--she's from a collage sheet.  After I had attached all of the images, I added three pieces of black and white dot paper, two black-on-clear transparency pieces, some musical 3-D stickers, a few black dots, and a chipboard black sliver of a moon.  The tear on the woman's face inside the moon was a happy accident--it's one of the pieces poked out of the G clef that landed there.  I like the way the woman next to her looks like she's kissing the tip of the moon.  I think of this piece as "Night Dreams".

And here's the "Day Dreams" companion piece, a 5X8 mat board magazine picture collage:
This one really echoes the bright colors from the inspiration piece.

Anything Goes with Pearls! Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge

This week's theme for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is:  Anything Goes with Pearls!

I immediately thought of treasures under the sea, pearl divers, mermaids...I started with a stamp from Impression Obsession, D1607 Treasure Chest.  I added an Inkadinkado shells and seaweed stamp.  Then I searched through my stash of handmade shrink plastic charms and found a yellow submarine, crab, sand dollar, and mermaid which I linked up.  I stamped the images on Neenah Solar White cardstock using Hero Arts Green Hills and Cup O' Joe inks, colored them with metallic pens and Memento markers and fussy cut them out.  I glued them onto a piece of Little Yellow Bicycle Makin' Waves paper, adhered that to a parchment notecard, and then went crazy adding KaiserCraft pearl flourishes.  Some lime green ribbon tied in a bow with the charms attached and the card is done!

My card is featured this week at PaperCrafter's Corner!

This is the post at the PaperCrafter's Corner blog today!
Papercrafting Inspiration: Magazine Mondays -Week 40 Submission by Anne T.

Anne created a fun card that would be a great pick-me-up for a friend or family member!
She was inspired by the colors in the inspiration piece and was sure to include the number “40″ to qualify for this week’s “special” prize!
I am a huge fan of the saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” and love that she incorporated not just the words, but the graphics to match!
Anne shared her card on her blog – be sure to stop by Anne’s blog and check out what else she likes to make!

This is the second time that they've chosen one of my cards as a focus piece.  I'm sooo pleased!

Less is More Challenge Week 160: Metal

In the spirit of Less is More, I made this card for the Metal Challenge this week.  I used a frog pond scene stamp from Magenta (19028M) and stamped it with Archival Olive ink on white cardstock.  I used a blending tool to add some of the same ink around the edges of the image before trimming it.  I adhered the image with double-sided tape to a piece of olive cardstock.  I wrapped a piece of olive seam binding around this and added a frog on a lily pad charm before tying the bow.  I added this finished front to a white notecard, again using the double-sided tape.  The first photo shows the card and the second is a close-up of the charm.

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge: Wedding

This week's challenge on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog is Wedding or Anniversary.  I decided to make a wedding card that will be tucked into a box with a gift.  I used Prima Flowers--Fairy Tale Roses French White--since Prima products were featured in the samples for this week's challenge.  I used a Mr. & Mrs. stamp from Stampin' Up and V126 Happy Couple stamp from Stampendous.  I stamped those in Gold Delicata ink and clear embossed both.  I put everything together on a Memory Box Parchment notecard.  I cut a small slit in the card fold and threaded through a gold organza ribbon which I tied in a bow.  I wish the shimmer of the gold showed better in the photograph.

As usual, I found it hard to stop at just one card.  Here are three more.
This one uses Prima Flowers --Flower Market Printery.

This one uses flowers I made from Memory Box dies and printed papers.

This one uses the last of the flowers I made today.

What If? Wednesday Challenge F1914

Here's the sketch for today's What If? Wednesday Challenge at the Repeat Impressions blog--The House that Stamps Built:

I decided to use the Repeat Impressions Stamp No. 9204M, the dragonflies and waterlilies, as the focal point for my card.  I stamped it in Archival ink and then used Inktense pencils and a waterbrush to color it in.  I used Memory Box papers for the three different backgrounds on a Memory Box white notecard and some coordinating ribbon from my scrap bin.  Thanks, Connie, for the Stampin' Up punch I used for creating the sentiment label which I watercolored and then stamped with Memories Tuxedo Black ink using a clear stamp.  I adhered the focal image with pop dots for more dimension.

A Cameo Appearance @ Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge

The Simon Says Stamp Monday blog challenge (2/17/14) is A Cameo Appearance.  I immediately thought of film and started looking through my ephemera for film-related pieces.  Once I had some things together, I decided to focus on the old photograph of the front of Lincoln Theatre in Damariscotta, Maine by using it as the focal image for a small shadow box.  I used Memory Box Black and White Polka Dots paper for the base of each section of the box.  I cropped and then mounted the photo on black paper.  I added a variety of stickers and die cuts to complete the box.

I used to go to the movies there often.  And both my son and I have been involved in many many local theatre productions there over the years--Andrew on stage and me behind the scenes as properties mistress, set decorator, and/or stage manager.  Lots of good memories.

PaperCrafter's Corner Magazine Monday Challenge 2/17/14

Here's the inspiration for this week's Magazine Monday Challenge at PaperCrafter's Corner:
I decided to keep with the fruit theme and created a Lemonade-themed card.  I used some papers from Memory Box and Little Yellow Bicycle, stickers from Little Yellow Bicycle, and dies from Memory Box--Fringed Circle, Cloud, Lemonade Glass--to create this little scene:
Pop dots behind the sun/cloud, the word MAKE, and the lemonade glass add lots of dimension.  I like how the torn edge of the green dot paper helps to draw the eye to the numbers and cent sign which I stamped and embossed.

In the last week I've been handed lots of lemons and have been doing my best to create lemonade!  So far, so good!!!

DCC 212 All Heart Challenge @ The House That Stamps Built Blog

The Wednesday Designer's Choice Challenge this week at The House That Stamps Built Blog (Repeat Impressions) is:  All Heart.  I made the stripes on the background using a technique I learned from Roni Johnson on her Inks Stains blog--I used blue painter's tape, rubbed it across ink pads, and transferred the ink to the card front.  I overstamped the lines with the Memory Box stamp F1439 Heart Bird Keepsake.  I added the "love you" script from a clear acrylic stamp set.  Inks used from Hero Arts:  Raspberry Jam, Bubblegum, and Black.

Anne, a newbie to our weekly challenge, created a lovely travel-inspired card based on last week’s inspiration piece.
She used a variety of stamps and supplies to create a dimensional card that’s perfect for a friend heading out on a trip…or perhaps an invitation to someone you want to travel with?

I love the double-stamped and layered images!
Be sure to stop by Anne’s blog to learn more about how she made this card, and to learn about her and what she likes to create.

Magazine Monday Challenge Week 38 @ PaperCrafter's Corner

This week's challenge (the 38th) for Magazine Monday at PaperCrafter's Corner is inspired by a page regarding travel tips in a German travel magazine:
The card I created used several elements from the inspiration:  the color red, suitcases, women, one bold word, layered images, and a travel theme.
I stamped the Journey collage stamp on a piece of off-white cardstock twice, once in black and once in red. I cut out the red images and layered them with foam tape over the piece.  I tore out the piece and used a blending tool and Wild Honey Distress Ink on the torn edges.  I then edged a parchment notecard in Wild Honey.  I stamped the women and "Wherever you go, there you are." in Hero Arts Black Ink.  I stamped the globe in Archival Vermillion in the upper left, stamped it again on a scrap of off-white cardstock, cut out the globe itself and pop-dotted it over the stamped image.  I added suitcases stamped on patterned papers, cut out, and layered with foam tape.  I added red to the women's hats and the handle of the World Travel suitcase using a Memento marker.  The touches of red keep one's eyes moving around the card.  I think I need to renew my passport, pack a bag, and travel with friends!
